About Me
I have been an amateur photographer for the last thirty years. I have never used expensive cameras believing the importance is in the lens, the eye of the photographer and the importance of the moment. My first serious camera was a Ricoh 500ME. I found this to be a really good camera to learn my craft. It had a built in light meter and a manual shutter speed and f-stop that allowed me to understand night photography, capturing motion and depth of field. I used this camera for many years travelling around Europe.
In 1994 I purchased a Canon EOS 500 an SLR light body camera with a brilliant ultrasonic lenses. This lens was incredibly fast autofocus unit with a manual override. I loved this camera and found through the lens a pleasure to work with when framing images. The only reason I had to change from this camera was to move to digital photography.
In 2007 I purchased a Canon Powershot SX100 IS small format factor camera. I wanted a more portable camera that had a flexible 36-360mm (x10 optical ) zoom whilst delivering 8 megapixel resolution. This delivered a very handy portable package to carry whilst mountain walking my other love.
In 2013 I purchased a Panasonic Lumix FZ200 bridge camera. This unit delivers 25-600mm Leica (x24 optical) zoom lens combined with a 12 megapixel resolution. This delivers a flexible F2.5 aperture over its entire zoom range. This package gives a fantastic compromise of an flexible zoom lens, compact size and weight with great quality images.
